Manga Doctor takes off his tieby ~alamedyang

My favorite part of Doctor Who, season 3, episode 1 -- when the Doctor (seemingly) randomly walks up to Martha Jones in the middle of a busy street, says, "Like so," and proceeds to take off his tie. Then he says, "See?" and walks away, leaving Martha to stare at his back and wonder what on Earth just happened.

Keep in mind Martha had never met the Doctor at this point.

It was going to be a full page with more panels, but I got lazy/frustrated/bored/what have you, so abandoned the whole page. (Maybe, someday, I'll finish....)

Toning and inking practice, mostly. This based off of an on-set photo taken during the scene itself, available at David-Tennant.com. This way, I had really good reference for clothing and wrinkles, but it doesn't look like it was ripped directly from the actual episode, since the photo was taken at a different angle.

Also, the picture I was working from didn't have a very good view of Martha's bag, and I couldn't find my season 3 DVDs to watch for reference, so I made up some sorta bag thing. Now, having found my DVDs, the bag was way off... sorry.... >_>

If the toning shading looks kind of choppy, that's because Manga Studio wasn't meant for drawing images for computer display, but for print. (It looks much better in print.) PhotoShop CS3 was used to take the 600 DPI rasterized image and shrink it down to be web-friendly. Drawing and toning took about eight hours because I SUCK and don't get enough practice doing stuff like this, and did some experimental tone shading techniques.

someone did a slow-mo version of this...then all of a sudden my hand (instincively) replayed it again and again...all the while i kept thinking that my computer was possessed by the video....then i felt so stupid and ended up favoring the vid..dont remember the name though...

Don't worry about the bag- anyone taking that much time to criticize you about an unimportant prop in a single episode has waaaaaaaaaaay too much time on their hands. I *love* Martha's reaction, I think that's pretty much what mine'd be to if the Doctor randomly started stripping in front of me! (Not that she would've known who the hell he was at that moment...)
